OAS on 7200 MCP
« on: August 10, 2010, 08:49:04 AM »
I have a customer getting ready to move into a 2nd location and they want to network their current 7200 with a MCP v 4.30i to a new 7100 with a MP10a. Does anyone know if I can use the OAS card on a 7200 with a MCP? I didn't want to upgrade the 7200 above 4.30i since their seems to be an issue with private ip address and spnet (which is exactly what we are doing).

The OAS card will not work with an MCP. You will need to upgrade the processor to an MP20 if you want to use an OAS card.

Glad to help!  :054:

For anyone interested in the details of the OAS card and the systems supported, please reference Samsung Product Bulletin 197 which came out on June 8, 2009. There has been some confusion because a few technicians have installed the OAS card in MCP processors. It appears the MGI portion of the card will work in the MCP systems, but it is not supported.

Oh great.  We have a 7200 w/ an MCP ver 4.14k that wants to go from PRI to SIP.

So our only choice is sell them an OAS card (they don't have an MGI or OAS now); a new MP20 (convert data to 4.46d; upload, etc); and the SIP licenses?  Then we get to add yet another MCP to the obsolete junk pile.

I wish Samsung would have done the right thing and offered an MCP to MP20 upgrade.

I just realized Samsung sold me SIP licenses for the MCP in place on the 7200.

That doesn't make sense then, unless an MGI-16 card, and if I remember those are about 2x the cost of an OAS.  :(

It gets to the point now where just replacing the 7200 with a 7200-S and reprogramming makes more financing sense (for smaller jobs).

Check the MGI pricing under "discontinued items"   :066:

When you are a Graybar seller, you don't get to use the sales part of GSBN.  You just get an outdated Excel file if you are lucky, and of course there are no discontinued items category.

I understand, I'd close my doors before I would buy from Graybar.  A Samsung rep. came to my office and asked me to buy from Graybar, I told them I'd change products if I had to do business with Graybar. I guess they heard a lot of that because they backed-off. :066:
