SIP Hacking?
« on: July 29, 2010, 10:47:32 AM »
Has anyone had any problems with hackers?

When we first went SIP, we started getting hit within a couple of weeks. I am now blocking all SIP traffic at the router except for traffic from our SIP provider, so it's not really a problem for me.

Last week I did an install with a new SIP carrier and the customer started getting hit within a few hours of being up and running.

To make a long story short, I made a few changes in our router to test a few ways of blocking the threats. Last night I rebooted the router and I forgot to save the changes. At 4:00am we started to get hammered and because I am using MOBEX, my cell phone started to go nuts. At 4:00am it took me a few minutes to figure out what was happening.

As long as you have your system setup properly the problem isn't much of a threat, but it can be a pain.

For those that aren't familiar with SIP Hacking... just do a Google search.
