Need help with iPhone 6S
« on: July 22, 2022, 08:22:24 PM »
OK, I know it's old, but I'm perfectly happy with it for the most part.  Besides, I'm a telephone man, not a cell phone man, hence the reason for coming here seeking assistance.

My "phone" is becoming increasingly slow, both in opening apps and even when texting.  I often have to close the texting app and reopen it to continue typing my message.  I'm not sure if this is a case of the thing just being worn out or if it's a case of the "phone's" resources (memory) being tapped out.

I'm also finding more and more apps, for example my mobile banking app, which requires me to update it.  Unfortunately, it only runs on iOS13.0 and higher.  This isn't the only app that is doing this.  I've tried to update the iOS, but it will only go up to 12.5 5.

I know that there is a reset function, which I would like to assume that it's similar to scandisk/defrag on a PC.  Something tells me that Apple's definition of the word 'reset' means wiping it out and starting over.  I'm not about to risk it without some guidance.

Can anyone offer me any assistance here or is it time to buy another "phone"?

Ed,

I love my iPhone. I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

But you know what? Mobile phones get bogged down with crap and just  s l o w   down.

Bite the bullet and buy a new phone. Buy last year's model it'll be half the price and it'll work for the next few years.

Forgive the expression, but you're squeezing the nickel till the buffalo shits.

Just do it. It'll be less grief and much less aggravation.

Thanks, Sam and I know that I'll eventually have to bite the bullet, but for now, I chose to follow a link given at another site that allowed me to reset the phone without losing everything and it appears to be working flawlessly.  At least I'll be able to shop for a replacement at my leisure instead of a rush job.

Yeah, I just had somebody who had their phone basically lock up, so they took it to the Apple store in the mall. She explained what they showed her to do, something about pressing both volume buttons then the one on top (or right side) or something. It will re-boot.

Wasn't it nice when you could just remove the battery?
