Comcast Cloud Based Service
« on: October 10, 2019, 12:46:22 PM »
Well I hate getting dragged out of retirement to help with some of this new crap but...........................

Comcast has sold their cloud service to a local business which currently has a Meridian key system and would like me to connect the paging horns at this location.  The way I understand it, Comcast will sell two additional seats, one for each paging horn, and provide an ATA interface for each. I believe I can install a Viking PA-60 between the ATA's and the paging horns.  Has anyone here installed these with Comcast?

If you get audio out of the ATAs you should be good to go.  :022:

Not with Comcast, but we use the SNOM PA1 for any SIP paging application:

This is what I'm thinking as well.

I will look into that as an option, thanks.

Just remember that the customer will no longer be able to use the Norstar's all call and zone paging features anymore.  They will have to place an 'outside' call over one of their lines to reach the appropriate ATA, and paging to each one will have to be made separately, in addition to a third page through the system's phones.  Basically, three calls will have to be made to perform a real all page.

Will a PA-60 work? I believe we usually use an FXI-1. The ATA will just simulate a phone line, so you'll need a device that will answer the line such as the FXI-1. You'll need two of these, one for each ATA.

Also, keep in mind that they will not have loud ringing through the paging system with this setup. If the customer wants loud ringing, they'll have to get an additional ATA that will trigger a device (PI-1A) to ring on the speakers.

It's all about saving money for the customer...  :022:

We use Bogen TAMB to interface to ATA's.
https://www.bogen-paging.com/tamb2ps.aspx

And as Ed said the paging port and phone set paging is out of the picture.

Good info everyone!  :054:

Thanks Ed, I will put this back on Comcast!

Marv, I was also looking at the Bogen TAMB

Larry, the PA-60 is what Comcast is recommending, as well as the Bogen TAMB

It seems like we've all seen this movie before. Some hot shot salesperson comes along and sells the customer, your customer, a new fandangled system that will do everything under the sun and more. But they forget to inform the customer one teeny tiny little fact,,,, this new system WILL NOT WORK WITH THE EXITING PAGING SYSTEM. Only after the new system is installed does this nasty little problem present it's self and then the slick salesperson simply pushes the problem off on the "Old System's People", it's their old bs system that will not work with the new beautiful system and they should be ashamed for not foreseeing the needs of the customer.

Larry, just have Comcast install the ATAs and plug single line phones into them. Make sure they work while the tech is there before committing to installing other equipment, because Comcastic will blame any problem on your other equipment.

I see no problem with a TAMB after each ATA going into each input of the PA60.

Another point is what you do after the ATA is none of Comcastic's business. They can barely do their job, they shouldn't be giving advice on audio and paging.

But then of course they are used to working with IT pin heads who only know how to get audio from their iPhones to their ear buds.

I couldn't agree more Bobby, but in this case, this is not my customer.  I'm just trying to help a friend who works for Comcast. This looks like a classic case of; "no good deed goes unpunished" which is why I may back out of the whole mess.  When the customer complains about the way it will have to be used, I will get the blame, the complaints, and the lack of payment because it no longer works as it did on the Meridian system!

Larry, just have Comcast install the ATAs and plug single line phones into them. Make sure they work while the tech is there before committing to installing other equipment, because Comcastic will blame any problem on your other equipment.

This has always been my policy when working with Comcast.
