Topic: Adding more stations to an IVX 128plus

I encountered a situation with an existing customer using this system that is maxed out with their current capacity at 48 stations.  We need to add more.

The main cabinet has the traditional mother board and three 6X12 station cards.  There is an expansion cabinet with only one station card (not sure if it has any line ports).  I need to add at least one more card to provide additional stations.  I remember ESI voice mail systems being plug-and-play with regard to expansion, but I'm not sure about this one.

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Adding a 5th card to the current 128 is pretty basic. You do want to know the specific CO line programming even though you are not adding CO lines. The reason is that in some cases when a card is added that has CO capability all previous CO line programming might revert to factory default. If this occurs you got to get back to custom CO line programming as quickly as possible or the customer will go all freaky deaky and that ain't a good thing.

How many CO lines are custom programmed?
What stations ring on line XXX.  1st ring, 3rd ring, 5th ring and when does line XXX go to AA or VM?
Maybe you have 5 CO lines and all 5 are programmed the same?
Maybe all 5 lines are programmed differently?

YOU GOT TO KNOW before you add that new card!!!!

One more thing. The ESI 128 in most cases is a HDD operated system and it will eventually crash. This will occur when it is powered down but won't power back up. If you add the new card and the system refuses to return to functionality it is not your fault BUT, you will be the dude that touched it last and so you will be out on a limb. Cover your butt by informing your customer of this possibility before you touch anything.

Thanks for your support, John.  I know we had already spoken about this, but I needed something in print for my boss before he would entertain taking on this project.  This customer loves us, so I hated to leave her with a "maybe".

Fortunately, there's nothing particularly unusual about the lines at all.  One group of twelve lines, all ring at the two receptionist positions (100 and 101).  How cool is that?
