with Apple products booming in popularity, it was only a matter of time before scammers found them as their next target.

The malware was inserted into a well-known program called Transmission.

If I understand what I've read (somewhat doubtful these days). the infected app was downloaded 6500 times but Apple caught it before it could be executed and no one (or few, if any) were caught.

I worked a lot with UNIX, back in the day. First with Xenix, then with SCO Unix and later with Linux. I liked the system -  a lot! I thought it was essentially bullet proof, but all the user interfaces (if any) sucked. When I saw that OS X was Unix with the Mac front end I jumped on it.

I've never looked back.
