Trying to understand the adp
« on: August 08, 2014, 04:39:57 PM »
So, I've been trying to do some research on this phone system for a local business and I'm very new to all of this.  The phone system is the vodavi Starplus 3514-71.  I'd like to connect a cordless handset to the system without having to extend the phone system with more expensive equipment.  I've noticed people mentioning connecting cordless sets to the adp on the bottom of the phone, but I can't figure out the details of how this works.  I don't yet have a cordless phone to play with and I want to make sure it will be doable before telling the business to spend any money.  Can anyone explain the process of connecting a cordless phone to the adp and how to get it to receive incoming calls and make outgoing calls?  Also, would the cordless phone need to be made for the vodavi phone system, or would a regular one work?

I apologize, I'm very new to phone systems like this and it's very difficult to find information online anywhere about them.  Also, if you could simply link me to any websites with beginner guides to these kinds of phone systems, I'd love to study up and learn more about these kinds of systems.  Thank you so much for any help you can provide.  Also, I'd be happy to provide any further information if necessary.

First things first; Welcome to myphonetechs   :003:

I'm sure one of our Vodavi moderators will be along soon.   BTW......where is the installing phone vender? Have you asked them to get involved?

Hello!  I'm not exactly sure which Vodavi phone system you have, as I can't find that model number.  However, ADP stands for "Additional Device Port".  In reality, it is simply a jack on the back of the phone that is wired to an unused pair on the station cable.  It cannot be used for a cordless phone, or any other device, without cross-connecting it to a working port.
