Voicemail SVMi-20E Problems
« on: August 06, 2014, 02:49:26 PM »
We just had our SVMi-20E card replaced about 6-9 months ago and it took 2 months to get the voicemail license for unlimited e-mail applied to it.  Now we lose network connectivity 2-4 times a day and have to reset the card to get it back.  It is not the network cable, the switch or the network it is connected to, and voicemail works fine...we just stop getting the e-mail from the SVMi card and we cannot hyper-terminal into it or even ping the IP address when it is down.  Our vendor tried updating some software per Samsung put that accomplished nothing.  This card is still under warranty and I want them to replace it, but I can't even get them to return my phone calls anymore let alone do something to actually fix the problem.  Any ideas short of throwing the whole thing away and starting over...which we are thinking about.

I suggest you find another vendor or contact Samsung directly.

Samsung warranty is top notch. Hopefully your vendor did not buy from grey market.

Telemarv is right, Contact Samsung Business 1-800-726-7864 and let them know your situation and you need a new vendor.  Hopefully there is another one in the area.

I have seen on other posts that the old SVMI20e was a bit sensitive to constant pings or similar network "attacks".  You might try putting a router between the SVMI and the customers lan so the lan port is protected with a firewall and is isolated from the network.  It only needs outgoing access anyway (and you could open up port 23 if you need), the older systems seem to be a lot more susceptible to lan attacks.  So you could put the pbx and the svmi behind the router, but start with the svmi.

I was going to say the same thing, most of the time it's a PC infected with a virus/worm trying to spread via removable media and it attacks port 21 and 23 looking for a way in.  I see it a lot on 7100's that are exposed on a larger network pre-4.70.  I currently have 2 customers with 20e's behind cheapo linksys routers because of this exact problem and they haven't gone down since.
