My dad has been encouraging me to relocate to NC where he and my uncle will fund my living expenses AND set me up with a new business venture.  I had to say a resounding NO!  Certainly not in this business anyway.

I'd rather be poor and work for someone else (which I'm doing now).  I suffer now after owning a telecom business for 27 years and I can say with complete certainty that I will never, repeat never do it again.

I can't say that it was all bad in this business, in fact when I started right after divestiture in 1984, I did pretty well.  I might even go as far to say that I did VERY well.  At one point, I had 20 employees, six vans, a warehouse full of nearly everything and even a bucket truck that was on the road all the time.  We had a seemingly non-stop supply of work.  Hell, even Bell Atlantic and GTE were referring me business.  I drove nice cars, lived in nice houses, took nice vacations and thought it was the thing to do.

Then, the IT "professionals" entered the scene.

No more.  No more.  Did I say NO MORE?

Oh hell, I'm only about 10% over budget on a 1.6MM job that is a little over 75% complete. ......   I can neither walk away or afford to finish.

Selling assets for 60 cents on the dollar is not fun, Not having trusted peers to talk with makes it less so.

I'd gladly run off to NC !!

Wasn't really the business model that I'd hoped for.   Throw in the brother in law of a general contractor who doesn't have a clue how to schedule subcontractors, subs that leave the job for weeks at a time, some rotten weather destroying previously done work.  Really... we've worked for these people before with good success but this job has been a 14 month 'bad day', nothing I mean nothing has gone the way it should have.

Yes I built in a little fluff for problems, but who can anticipate day after day of it?   Since I have been reading the posts at the 'other place' and here since 2006 and do respect and value some of the support and advice given to others.  Normally I read these posts to unwind and gain some knowledge on a hobby of telephony and Norstar systems.  No, I didn't come looking to find a shoulder to cry on, mostly just venting about my own stupidity I suppose.  Maybe some person to person interaction from a business standpoint. One thing is sure, I never thought that I would be snickered at.

Forgive me if this post sounds rude, truth is I just dumped almost everything I have worked for into some dumbasses project, it's somewhat hard to think clearly at times.

Jeff... I can assure you that MacGuyver's comments were in no way directed at you, but addressed Test-ok's comments to Ed.  I am not personally a business owner, but I know the people here well enough to call them friends and I can assure that no ill will toward you was intended in the least.  I'm sure that the guys will be in to clarify themselves, but I didn't want you thinking that there was any snickering in here regarding what must be an incredibly difficult time for you.

Stacey is correct, our comments were directed towards the business of the bar!   :066:

No disrespect was meant towards you. I'm very sorry for the confusion.
