Self amp Valcom speakers
« on: June 07, 2010, 06:48:12 PM »
I am about to put in 2-self amp Valcom Speakers off a merlinII co port.
1-is about 35 feet away and 1 -is about 60 feet from power supply.

Could  i use just 2 pairs of the cat5 ,1- pair for power and 1- pair for for audio or should I double up
the pairs

Any advice ?

You should  be fine at those distances , Ive run them a lot farther than '60 on a single pair

I inherited a system that has many speakers at what I consider to be pushing the limits but I really don't have a lot of problems with them. I would guess some of them are approaching the 250 to 300 foot range from the power supply over cat 3 telephone cable with no doubled pairs.

As for using a CO port, I would use a 600 Ohm, 1:1 transformer on the speech pair just to be safe if you haven't already planned on it.

Here is the Valcom power run distance chart for wire size

Here is the Valcom support page it has just about all you could need for setting up the valcom series of equipment.

Yes I agree with the above posts you should be just fine with what you need.

As a follow up to this post ,The speakers work fine with a toner and the page button
lets me monitor the trunk 11 out of the Merlin II
It appears I need a Valcom v2000 that is on its way.

A side note Valcom lately is back ordered on many items . The v1030c's are back ordered 2-4 weeks for parts so I Used Bogens.

I had thought to mention Bogen, Thanks for the heads up. We use the 2001 when ever using trunks to talk back speakers. But the systems we sell have multiple ports for paging. So the power is all we really need most of the time.
