IPO VPN phone
« on: December 14, 2010, 05:32:05 PM »
I am trying to download the software for a 5610 phone to make it a VPN phone. I have followed the steps (I think not very clear to me) in tip #205 from Avaya. It goes like it is going to work, but never gets to the screen  VPN configuration error screen . The phone will eventually load as a phone on the locale network. Does anybody have a clearer set of instructions? IPO 500 version 1 software 5.0.18
Thank you,
Shawn

First, watch your ftp server and see if the files are being requested.
Is the 96xxVPNsettings.scr being requested?  Downloaded and upgraded?

If not:
Did you modify the 46xxsettings.scrwith the :

IF $GROUP SEQ 876 GOTO DEFVPN

GOTO NOVPN

# DEFVPN

GET 46xxvpn.scr

# NOVPN

Right click on it.  Them you will be able to edit the file.  Also what phones is this for?  If 96xx, this is all wrong.

Back at this again.  This is for a 5610 phone. Is there any help on the Avaya sites besides the tech tips?
Thank you,
Shawn

You might want to send mongo5150 a quick PM. He's great with IPO and he will probably be able to resolve the problem.

I finally got the files into the manager file. Now it tries to boot, but we are getting a tftp error: unknown error. The manager program show a boot request and then unable to process. Now we are getting tftp error timed out.
Thank you,
Shawn

Does the phone have teh VPN firmware on it?  Doubtful, as you say that the TFTP server is not being reached.

Are you using an external TFTP server?  If using Manager, go into preferences and make sure the "Use tftp and bootp server" is checked.

Then look at your Manager TFTP server IP address, does it match the IP that Manager is on?  Once all that is verified, you can open the TFTP viewer to see the files transfer.

So we got the vpn software onto the phone. But now I think we are just battling ip addressing info. In the phone when it asks for the call server ip address, should that be a public address because I am going through the internet? I can't just put my local ip in there can I? 192.168.1.10 for example. We have a public ip address for this, but don't know where to put that info.
Thank you,
Shawn

Cool, you are 90% of the way there.

Leave the IP at dhcp (0.0.0.0)
Callserv is the IP of the IPO
fileserve is TFTP server

leave router and router mask at 0.0.0.0 as well

When you go into the VPN programming, that is where you set the public IP of where the VPN router is on your network.

What type of VPN device is this?  I have the documentation for the vpn routers, i can email to you if needed.  They go through the settings of the routers and the phone.

It is the Netgear fvs 338. We have the tech tip, but we are just missing what ip addresses go where. Thank you so much for your help, we really appreciate it.
