Avaya Partner and VS 5
« on: October 26, 2010, 02:42:46 PM »
I have a customer who was complaining of callers not being routed to extensions after AA answers.  (AA is on all the time).  They also said there were squealing noises on the lines sometimes.  When I got to their office, I noticed the VS 5 light was off.  All the other modules seemed fine.  I pulled out the VS 5, did some test calls and was able to answer the calls and get dial tone out etc.
I tested the VS 5 back at my lab and squealing sounds alright!  more like screeching.  So, I ordered them a new VS 5 which is on its way.
Meanwhile, the customer emailed me this morning, they are not able to answer calls they are getting dead air, also they are unable to get dial tone to dial out.
Is this the processor now going out too???  Could it be the back plane/carrier that is wreaking havoc?
thanks!!

Funny how people always seem to jump to the conclusion that there is a problem with a carrier. Other than being intermittent because of worn out/ozidized edge connectors I have never seen one to cause a problem. What I have found with old systems is that once you touch it it falls apart. So yes, you apparently have other stuff crapping out. Now is the time for an upgrade.

Thanks for your quick response.  I'm glad you said that about the carrier.  You are right about the upgrade, It's time.

Thank you.

do you know if the old Partner Endeavor would integrate with the VS 5?

Thanks again!

Yes, the Endeavor will support VS mail, but by the time VS5 rolled out I was well away from the Endeavor systems and installing the ACS, but I would think that the VS5 would work with it as I don't recall hearing of any restriction concerning the Endeavor and VS.
I swear I didn't touch it

Keep in mind the Endeavor used 362ec cards not 308,206 or 400. So if your thinking of using it for an upgrade beware of this.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes.  I have 2 362EC cards.  And, I just tested their VS 5 in it and its seems to be OK.  Maybe they don't need a VS 5 replacement after all.  I'm keeping my eye on it though, the rest of this evening.

So far...so good.  Thanks again.
