Ethernet extender over twisted pair
« on: June 15, 2021, 02:40:26 PM »
I'm not really sure where to put this, but I figure you all will find it!

I have to extend Ethernet up a mountain over 1 or 2 copper pairs.  Do any of you have a converter that you would recommend?  I found this one, but it's a little pricey.

What's the cable length?  Usually for something like this you would use fiber or wireless. You notice that the speed drops off dramatically past 1000 feet for those extenders which are really a dsl flavor.

It's only to run one camera.  They don't want to pull any new fiber/cable.  They have two copper pair available with no power at the top of the mountain.  We'll be powering with solar and wind in a weatherpoof box full of batteries, rated to -40F.  So, yes... our option is basically personal DSL just to feed that camera.  Working with what I have.

I have a new CL1314 pair I would like to get rid of. Bought them several years ago, then the project scope changed and I've had them in the office since then. New, but opened box. We should talk if you're interested. Will sell well below list.

These are exactly what we're looking for, but the price tag is a bit steep.

Jim... if you'd PM me what you're looking to get out of those, I'll see if it fits in the budget.   :064:

Thank you!!

****I just noticed that that was a 2-pack price.  That makes this much more reasonable!

I used one of these at a site:
https://www.netsys-direct.com/collections/featured-products/products/kit-hyperxtender-er-ethernet-extender-nv-202ekit

netsys-direct.com   is the home page for a lot of stuff.

They even have Gigabit ethernet extenders.

OOPS - I just re-read the first post and you already did URL for this same product.
Sorry about that.   But it did work.

ADDED THIS to my last post:  This was in a huge building with many huge warehouses.
The Dmarc was in the middle of the whole building.
Provider brought in fiber to the dmarc and then handed off an ethernet port for internet.
This was over 500 feet.   Used Amphenol cable that was already in place for phone lines.

Thank you all for your input.  I'm supposed to be hearing back from the solar array engineer today and I can let you know about those Pattons, Jim.

Just curious if you got this project completed, as we have a similar scenario we are providing but PTP wireless is 80/20 the way they are leaning. Was your extender the right fit?

Please and thank you!

Sorry, Tony.  They have not moved forward with this so far.  It seems that the jobs that require the most engineering don't move forward after all that work.

Haha, I understand that! Seems like that happens a good portion of the time here too.
