Topic: Wi-Fi Hot Spot for Internet Access Backup

I have a client that is looking for a backup plan in case their Internet system fails and everything I can find for wi-fi hotspots expires the purchased data every 30 to 60 days and they require a monthly payment.

Is there one out there that doesn't expire data and doesn't require a monthly payment?
Internet On The Go advertised a plan a few weeks ago but when the client tried to order the equipment they say that plan is no longer available.

We use Cradlepoint as a backup.  Delivers internet over 4G, but only charges usage.  There may be a small monthly fee for connectivity.

Bobby, please keep me posted if you find something good.  My guys still carry MiFi's that are on the AT&T network for backup except for a couple that just tether to their phone becuase they don't need multiple people to be able to hook up to it.  Nothing free, though.

Like Stacey we've used Cradlepoints for a long time for back up stuff.  You can get them for as cheap as 15/mo then charged usage if used.  But nothing free that I've ever seen.

I finally heard back from Cradlepoint today and according to what we were told today they do not provide Internet access at all. They only provide the hardware. We would have to go through some other carrier for the service.

Yes you use the Cradlepoint as the failover device that you would put an aircard or register with a Carrier (VZ, Att, etc)

I sub for a chain of tire stores and part of each work order is to get pictures of the lights on the cradlepointe , sometimes we have to move it to get better cell service . it has bars on it for service like a cell phone .

We use Blue Sky Wireless.  $60 Per month , great for backup and fall over.  I can give you a contact if needed.

 Thanks Ken. I think they're just going to go with Sprint for less than $20.00 per month.
