I think that is the FXII  which should be a small gray KSU almost in the shape of a cube.  I don't remember a battery for that but it did require a "magic" number if it needed to be reloaded. Many times the number was written on the inside of the front cover.  RBF knows a lot about these units.  This KSU was my concept but it wasn't made untill I moved on.

that sounds like it Larry . I didnt see any number written anywhere . I told the customer I take no responsibility if it doesn't come up at the new location . She says it always come back from power outages .

You and Dave helped with some stuff on this back in '13 and I haven't heard from the customer since then

i always put a "not responsible" clause in any quote for a system move that requires a power shutdown.

Good luck.

How would you plug it into a UPS without removing power?

Usually not the initial quick power outage kills them, its when you leave them unplugged for more than a few minutes.

For old systems, we make the customer power the system down at the old location and power it back up after it's moved.  That way they can't say we broke it.   :011:

Yes....it always comes back until it doesn't......then they want it to be your problem.   I quote a new and used system for the new location but never move something that old unless the customer agrees to accept responsibility.  I moved a Comdial DX80 for a "new" customer and the voicemail hard drive never booted at the new location.  I was glad all was in writing!  :066:  The customer hasn't made you a dime in 6 years....another reason to walk away!

Actually I find that it's just to opposite. Quick power outages almost always gets them. But then I work with Avaya.

I'm getting a lot of requests to move 14 year old and even older systems. I don't even bother to quote. I tell them they need a new system, that thing will never survive.

Not to worry.. I still have CPUs with magic numbers if the system craps the bed. I would do a database back up before shutting it down though. That way if it turns ugly you just replace the blade and restore. Plugged into a mini UPS during transit wouldn't hurt either.

Yep. Those quick brown out flashes are killers for these older systems. Particularly the ones where the power bounces a couple of times in short succession.

there was a NEC DSX KSU on the wall left by the last tenant  , I told them that would be a good upgrade . by the time we looked at the price of phones and a expansion card She decide to move the comdial They are downsizing so they have a bunch of spare phones . She says if the Comdial dies she will go with the DSX and like she says phones aren't that important to them as long as the internet is up they can do without phones for while everybody has cell phones

DSX support officially ends June 30th.  I thought it was already gone, but apparently it's this weekend.  Goodbye DSX.

We had a DSX at our Temple. It was a nice little package that worked well. Only trouble I ever had with it was when someone changed the language on the phone to Scandinavian  :011:.
