KX TD7896 won't connect to PBX system

I have a KX TA824 with an extension on it that works fine. The second extension, a KX TD7896 displays a "No Service" message despite being in range. There are two options on the 7896, "PBX" and "Setting Base" that can't be clicked on. I have tried taking the batteries out and resetting the base but it still displays the same "No Service" message.

C, did this ever work or are you setting this up for the 1st time now?
The switch should be on PBX. Check the line cord and make sure it is a 2 pair line cord. (4 copper pins).
Also you can check the unit at the TA 824. Is the transformer for the base unit plugged in to a good outlet?

Hello,

Yes this is the first time. The cord does have 4 copper pins and the outlet is reliable.

Take it the system and plug in the base to an outlet and the system to a port on the TA824.
It's also possible that the handset isn't the mate for that base.

I did that, it still unfortunately says "No Service". On the instruction manuals for the 7896, it says it is pairable to the TA824 and I would do that by clicking on the 'PBX Program" option in the menu, but that can't be selected.

you really don't have to do any programming in the TA824 to get it to work.
The base switch should be set to pbx.
Is the 7896 new?

Yes it is. The TA824 is a "Type 1" with the 7896 so yes, it should automatically work

No service means the hand set isn't communicating with the base station.
It shouldn't matter whether it's connected to the system.
The last thing I would check, if you have a VOM meter is the output on the power supply
for the base unit.  other then that, I'd take it back.
