Buried Splice Closure Recommendation
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:00:23 PM »
We have a location that had a 100-pr DB cable cut.  Usually we prefer to install two pedestals and splice the cable above-ground.  There is no particular place for peds at this spot, and the customer doesn't want to do anything except to fix what was cut.

Any recommendations on a buried splice closure for a 100-pr?

I like the 3M BB3X24-Higel for these applications.  They come with everything you need, even the filling compound.  All that you need is sheath bond clamps and whatever kind of wire connectors you want to use for the splice.

Can't go wrong with the 3M "Better Buried" series. Like Ed said these come with sheath bonding straps, filler compound, etc. Used them for many many years.

Verizon tech said electrical tape and a Glad trash bag and you'll be fine Larry.   :066:

Thanks guys.

Trace, do we need the heavy-duty trash bags or will the dollar-store variety be okay?

According to Verizon, you can use Dollar Store, and in a pinch you can even use their grocery sacks.  It's what Verizon has built their reputation on.

I'm sure you've already ordered something, but I'll agree with the 3M™ Better Buried Closure Kit suggestion.

Why the trash bag? Around here, they only bag the Aerial terminals that they need to get back into. A permanent splice only needs a roll or two of tape!  :015:
